Rio Ferdinand will not take England captaincy snub 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
England coach Fabio Capello appointed Terry to lead the side during Wednesday night's friendly against the Czech Republic, and for England's World Cup qualifying campaign.

Prior to the announcement, is was suggested Ferdinand would be named as Capello's skipper.

However, Ferguson believes Capello went for the Chelsea defender because of his experience, and said: "The advantage John Terry has is that he has been captaining Chelsea for quite a while.

"The way I operate at United is on a seniority level. Gary Neville was appointed captain two years ago and when he wasn't available Ryan Giggs took over. If Ryan Giggs isn't available then Rio will get it.

"In time Rio will be given the captain's armband, no question. He has the right leadership qualitiies which have improved over the last two to three years, and his ability is there for all to see.

"I don't think Rio should be worried about losing out on the captaincy. It's not a reflection of his ability. Fabio Capello has chosen John Terry and Rio will just get on with it."
